A lot of hard work goes into making chandeliers and when you’re considering a crystal chandelier for your home, you should know about the different crystals out there and what you can choose from; after all, it’s the crystals that make it what it is.

There are five types of crystals available.

First, there are Swarovski crystals which come from Austria and are the finest crystals in the world. They are extremely clear, almost as clear as water and come in many colors. They have a mirror-like quality and a coating not visible to the naked eye that ensures they clean well and easily.

Secondly, we have hand cut crystals which are processed crystals or rocks that undergo several processes to produce the crystal. These crystals are also great quality.

For persons with extremely refined tastes and fussy as to the origins and make of crystal, there is the legacy crystal which are made in Venice. These crystals are not cut like Swarovski and hands cut crystals but are molded and then fire polished. These crystals are used to give the antique look to furniture, ornaments and chandeliers.

Then there are vintage crystals which are actually vintage crystals and valued for their age. These crystals are usually legacy crystals made before the 1900’s and the value here lies in the time and place these crystals were made. These crystals usually already come within a chandelier so it is the chandelier itself that should also be a vintage piece.

Finally, there is the rock crystal which is a crystal that forms over billions of years, naturally. This sort of crystal guarantees uniqueness and originality as Mother Nature never makes the same crystal twice.

Keep in mind that the crystals should be tailored to suit the room that the chandelier will be in. So depending on what takes your fancy, and what sort of chandelier you want, you have a range of crystals you can choose from when purchasing your crystal chandelier.
