Gifts That I’ve Had Success With

I gotta tell ya, that as a guy I’m pretty bad when it comes to shopping.  The biggest problem I have, is not my gender, but the fact that I’m so indecisive.  I think too much about it.  It’s just the way I’m wired.  I actually do it in all aspects of life.  I worry too much about stuff, and just don’t take action soon enough.  I do it with work, relationships, and even the sports that I play.  One of my team mates keeps telling me “Your thinking too much out there . . . don’t ya know thinking’s bad for the team”.  It’s a bit of a running joke with us.  But it’s true.

Some of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten for those important people in my life, have been spontaneous, and without much regard for silly things.  Like, whether the receiver is going to like it or not.  Of course their going to like it, everyone likes gifts.  Presents for sporting events for someone that’s never been to see their favorite sport live.  Yumdrop Lingerie for that special person in your life, that can’t help but be a bit of an exhibitionist was a big hit.  The trick to buying great gifts, is to go with your first instinct, and be decisive.  If not, you could get burned.  It happened to me last Christmas.  I was out shopping, found the perfect gift, but decided to look around a bit.  By the time I got back it was gone and I was almost out of time.  Barely salvaged that one.

Finding bargains online

When it comes to online shopping, then there are certainly many bargains to be had. If you find yourself being held captive by a restricted budget, then you can most likely turn to an online shopping experience in order to find what you are looking for at an affordable price.

Shopping online isn’t all that much different than shopping in the real, physical world, except that the competition that is much more readily available helps to drive down prices in a way that you just can’t find in the physical arena. Couple that with the fact that you can find many amazing third party acquisitions on the internet, and you have the recipe for very low prices and quality that you should be able to judge before making a purchase.

There are so many places to find amazing deals online, that they would be too numerous to list in a short article, but you are probably aware of some of the major locations. eBay is a great place for buyers to find rare deals on almost anything, but the garage sale mentality that this site breeds makes it difficult for sellers to receive market value for any of the items they are selling. Amazon also offers items from third party sellers, meaning you can get almost anything you are looking for, if you are willing to purchase them used. Make sure to check the user rating and reviews before making a purchase, so you can avoid being disappointed in your purchase at a later date.

There you have it, a rather simple, succinct guide to finding great deals on a variety of products in the online world. For other options, simply run a search engine query, and you’ll likely find more options for any future purchases than you could possibly pursue in the course of a normal afternoon. So, whether you are looking for kitchen canisters for home storage options, or you’re searching for the latest in dressing table stool design, you can certainly take advantage of online options in order to procure the best deals available.

Problems with Giving a Gift Card

Gift cards have quickly become the go-to gift for all occasions. Prepaid gift cards are the perfect solution when you are buying for an acquaintance, buying for the person who has everything, or running out of time to shop. There are, however, problems with giving a gift card that should be considered.

Gift Cards can be Impersonal
When someone opens a gift that you put a lot of thought into, it shows. The recipient often feels the thought and/or work that went into selecting and purchasing the item. While a gift card is thoughtful, it can never carry the sentiment that a carefully selected gift can. Save gift cards for token gifts, and give gifts with thought to close friends and family members.

Gift Cards Can be Unusable
Are you sure that the gift card recipient likes to shop at a certain store or eat at a certain restaurant? If you give a gift card to a retailer that is not appealing to the recipient, it will most likely never be used. Resist the urge to give gift cards to your favorite places if you are not sure the recipient feels the same way. Purchase a gift card that you are sure will be used.

Gift Cards Can Carry Undesirable Terms
Be careful when purchasing gift cards – they might come with strict terms such as processing fees or expiration dates. Some would even offer free gift cards, no participation required but would imply term such as ‘usable only within six months’ or ‘can only be used within this branch’. As gift cards become more popular, undesirable terms are becoming less common. However, if you are unsure of the terms, make sure you ask prior to purchase.

Gift Cards are not Cash
Gift cards are commonly purchased as an alternative to gifting cash. However, some special occasions simply warrant a gift of cash. Cash gifts are a tradition at weddings, graduations, and other such life events. Unless recipients ask for gift cards to fund a specific purchase, your best bet is to give cash.

Pocket Watch – Perfect Father’s Day Gift

Whether it’s Father’s Day, Dad’s birthday, Christmas or some other occasion, if you’re looking for a gift for Dad, you can’t go wrong with a pocket watch. It’s a gift that Dad is sure to love, and one you’ll love giving him too. A pocket watch is a classic timepiece; a sophisticated edition any man would love to have. Watch dad unwrap it and the nostalgia is sure to follow. Surely your dad will recall his father or grandfather slipping a watch out of his pocket and gently flipping it open to check the time of day. There was something special about this particular ritual that was repeated several times each day. Undoubtedly, these pocket watch moments were filled with great stories about history, pocket watches and, of course, the railroad.

Your Dad will love reliving these memories from the moment he unwraps your gift and each and every time he uses it to check the time. Perhaps your dad would like to own a nice Waltham, Illinois, Elgin or even a Hamilton pocket watch. These are excellent, reputable companies who have been producing pocket watches and timepieces for many years. They are steeped in history and the changing world of the timepiece. From the early railroad days to the advent of Swiss movement to the coming of the wrist watch, these companies have been rolling quality pieces off the line.

If you want Dad to really get that feel-good sense of nostalgia from your gift, you might consider an antique pocket watch that has plenty of history itself. You can easily find these online or from a reputable dealer. However, be sure to have things checked out thoroughly, certifying the authenticity of the pocket watch before you lay your money down. You can find great pocket watches from the early days, at affordable prices, featuring double casing, gold or silver, and often engraved with the image of a train, among other things.

If it’s a gift you want for Dad, a pocket watch is the way to go. Don’t forget the pocket watch stand… in case he’d prefer to lovingly display his new treasure.
