Learn About Fly Fishing For Bass

Freshwater, large mouth bass was in the quarry when I first learned how to use a fly rod. My girlfriend’s brother-in-law Vic and I headed out fishing together one morning in his hometown of Salisbury, NC. First, though, before we got out on the water, I would learn the basics of flycasting in the front yard. Keep your arm stiff, lay the line out in the air behind you with one smooth motion, and while stripping line with the other hand, shoot the rod tip forward! read more »

Spinning Reels – Reasons to Buy One

When fishing, an angler or simply, someone who fishes for a hobby, will likely encounter some problems, most especially, when it comes to salt water fishing, considering that most salt water fish will be much more stronger and bigger than fresh water ones. One of those most common problems is with the reels for fishing, since most tend to break after extensive use, or to put it simply, most do not just last long.

However, spinning reels have long been known to be quite durable without being too expensive. To help with that, here are a few more reasons why you should buy a spinning reel.

  • You don’t really need to use ball bearings, which help in cutting costs and maintenance. Spinning reels can either have them or none.
  • They are much better than other types of reels, such as casting reels and flying reels, because both can be quite expensive, and those that are priced on the same level as spinning reels is quite ineffective.
  • They are very easy to maintain, and this is because of their simplistic design. Opening it is no hassle, as compared to other types of reels, so this does not make putting grease in it a huge problem.
  • Repairs come in quite cheap, and if they can no longer be repaired, you can always choose to buy a new one.
  • For those that are just starting to fish, using a spinning reel is absolutely a no-brainer. They are very easy to use, have quite a huge range and are quite cheap.

There are lots and lots of more reasons why spinning reels should be used and these that have been enumerated are just some of them. An example of a spinning reel that comes at a very reasonable price is a van staal reel. To those that are really working on a tight budget, you can always look for used van staal reels for sale online, or in any local fishing stores.

Army Paintball is Very Realistic

When the U.S. military needs to train tactical maneuvers in realistic environments they use Tippmann brand Army paintball guns. By creating a safe environment to practice, these recreational guns strengthen physical endurance, create unit cohesion, and build character. Now you too can feel what it’s like to be a grunt in the heat of battle.

Designed with safety in mind, these guns use compressed air to shoot gelatin balls filled with non-toxic, water soluble dye. But don’t be fooled, they shoot and feel as accurate as possible. The strength and speed of fire depend on what kind of gun you use, but practice and skill are what separate novices from pros. read more »

Quilting Thread Information

Quilting Thread

What kind of quilting thread should you use? The first thing you need to know is what fiber the quilting thread is made of. The two most common kinds of quilting thread are cotton and silk. Both types have their pluses and minuses, so it really comes down to one’s personal preference. What matters most is that the quilting thread works for your project. If the thread you choose will work well in your sewing machine, or you like how the thread feels when quilting by hand, then by all means go ahead and use it.

All About Cotton Thread

100% pure cotton thread is the traditionalist’s choice for use in most quilting projects. Cotton thread is available in many weights, and is a good choice for embroidery projects. 40 weight and 50 weight are the most common size of cotton thread. 50 weight cotton thread is far and away the most popular crafter’s choice for use in quilt piecing. This is because cotton is a natural material, and the thread made from it gives quilts a soft and gentle look. Cotton thread is not very flexible, however; there is a possibility that it will snap if it is stretched too tightly. Cotton threads also are more likely to fade with exposure the sun, as well as shrink in the wash. Treat cotton threads the same as as you would treat clothes made from cotton fabrics.

All About Silk Thread

Silk is a very strong and flexible thread, and is considered to be one the most beautiful and softest of natural fibers used in quilting. Silk thread also has a very high sheen, which creates a unique look in quilting and embroidery projects. Silk quilting thread, and projects created with silk threading may be safely washed in the washing machine on the delicate cycle with a mild detergent.

Regardless of what type of thread you decide to use for your quilting projects, it is important that you use a reputable and quality thread from a good manufacturer.  Look around online for the best quilting thread suppliers and watch for great reviews on products.

Types of Willow Tree Collectables

Susan Lordi began creating these beautiful hand carved sculptures in 2006 to represent the many blessings in life, such as peace, joy and, love. It was not long before the number of Willow Tree collectables grew, from fifteen tree angles, a small nativity set, and one figurine, into hundreds of sculptures covering every life event imagined.

The grace and majesty of the willow tree was thought to simulate human emotions and is the inspiration for the name for these beautiful hand sculptures. These beautiful and elegant hand sculptures make wonderful gifts for any occasion, such as wedding, birthdays, Christmas and any other special occasion you wish to show a family member, friend, or loved one that you care.

The candleholders, which have an earthy tone and organic color, are sculptured to fit into your palm giving it a more personal quality.
If you are searching for a gift that can be given for any occasion, you may want to consider a keep sake box. Each keep sake box comes complete with a unique inspirational message inscribed inside making this a great gift for any occasion.

If you have a family member, friend or loved one that loves to write or for anyone that keeps notes on daily activities, you may want to consider giving one of the journals as a gift. The journals are hard cover bound, inlaid with hand sculpture and filled with lightly lined 60% recycled paper.

The beautiful figurines suggest elegance, simplicity, peace, and serenity. It maybe the position of the hands or the angle of the head that conveys the feeling and emotions that the artist wishes to display. With no facial features, feelings are left to the observer to decide which feelings are being expressed, making them a more personal gift.

Whatever the occasion, there is a willow tree collectable, which can be given and will be loved

What to Look for in a Camping Tent

As summer comes around camping can provide a great chance for family bonding and it offers an affordable way to vacation together.  The single most important factor of camping besides having a campsite, is your tent.  Families on a budget can find a cheap tent but they need to make sure it is the right one for them.  There are a couple of things to decide between.

The first thing you should consider is how you are getting to your campsite.  Are you hiking or will you be able to park your car next to it and walk a few feet?  This is important because if you are hiking you will have to carry it.  There are many lightweight options if this is what you need to do.  However, when camping with your family you are going to require a bigger tent which usually results in it weighing more.  You don’t want a heavier one if you will be carrying it over your back while hiking a few miles.

Next, figure out how many people will be sleeping in it.  Manufactures classify tents as “man tents.”  An example of this would be, “4 man tent.”  One problem with selecting a tent based on this number alone is that it isn’t factoring in the size of all the people.  If there are just 2 Adults and 2 children then you will probably be fine.  However, 4 adults will not fit so comfortably.  Also, make sure to estimate how much room you need for the things you bring with you.  If you bring a lot camping you will want more space to accommodate everything.
Also, are you going to be camping in dry weather with little winds?  Most tents are only designed to withstand the milder seasons.  Four season tents will be useful if you plan on camping where it’s windy and snowing.  Other than that, you will be spending unnecessary money on this feature.  Just make sure it comes with a good rain fly and sturdy tent poles and your tent should be able to withstand the occasional rain showers you might encounter.
