Blood Pressure Drug Actually Slows Hair Loss

Women want to stop their hair loss as much as men do. In fact, they have even more enthusiasm to find a way to stop it and this is proven by the fact that 60% of reported cases of hair loss problems that are consulted to doctors are from women. Most of the visits are from women who are having a hard time with issues of hair loss like balding and hair thinning. Given this fact, it is somewhat discouraging to know that there is little attention given to this female problem by the medical community. Before the last few years the only option for a woman was to cover up her hair loss problem with a wig, hat or scarf.  Today, there are some reliable and effective products that can be bought on the market that are especially formulated for female hair restoration. One of the significant developments was the formulation of Minoxidil which is approved by US FDA for effectively treating this problem in women.

Minoxidil was actually developed as a drug to lower or bring back to normal high blood pressure. The drug slightly increased in cross section the tiniest blood vessels of the body tissues. In effect, the blood can then flow more easily in the body and the back pressure at the heart is then decreased. Several clinical studies were conducted and it was proven to work quite well. Another more interesting outcome was seen during the trials though. It was noted that most of the men who joined the testing had also seen improvements in their hair loss problems. From there, it was realized that Minoxidil could be the product that a lot of men have been searching for to stop baldness.

After more trials, it was proven that hair restoration products that have Minoxidil are very effective in slowing down the hair loss process in men. Once this was established, clinical trials were also conducted on women and there were good results. It has been shown that women who use a topical solution of Minoxidil with 2% concentration can have improvement in their hair thinning.

It is believed that the increase in the blood supply helped in making the hair follicles more active and, as a great result, the hair growth continues.
