Pick the Right Bedding for Company

You will have overnight guests sooner or later when you live on your own and you should prepare for this before you get a call that puts you in a panic because they will be there in two days.  A spare bedroom can easily be outfitted with a princess bed or any other kind you came upon at a good sale or garage sale, whichever your finances will allow.  It may take a little more preparation for an apartment without a spare bedroom, but there are lots of options.

A double divan bed gives you a bed by night and a couch by day.  There are also love seats that pull out to make a single divan bed, or a divan with only one arm that you add a blanket and pillow and it is ready.  A folding bed is very handy, but you have to have the room to store it when you are not using it.  They come in a variety of styles, everything from a camp cot to a commercial grade that is almost as comfortable as your own bed.  Another option is a ready bed that collapses down to a smaller size for storage.  These need to be blown up for use, but are comfortable and some come complete with the bedding.

The important thing to remember is to make sure you have room to set the bed up if you do not have a spare room with a permanent one.  It would do you no good to have a bed for company that folds out of the couch if you do not have room for that.  Look at the people that might visit you and take into consideration what type of bed they will need.  Healthy younger siblings can easily sleep on the floor, but grandparents should have a good bed off the floor.  Worse case scenario, you can sleep in the living room and give them your room, so maybe you should pick the type of bed you want to sleep on.

Ribbon-Style Mirrored Furniture

Around the 12th Century some crazy blacksmith or carpenter (maybe a team of both) decided that it would be a good idea to add some kind of reflecting surface to the body of his work. No one knows exactly where the first piece of mirrored furniture came from or what kind of furniture it was but we do know that the concept was there before the technology even existed to create smooth glass mirrors.

The practice of making mirrored furniture has been around for such a long time that it has gone through a few transformations over the years. Countless furniture styles have come about that makes use of mirrors and all of them have been interesting to say the least.

Everyone from the Venetians to the French have tried their hands at integrating mirrors into their furniture designs and they have come up with intricate dressers with vanity mirrors, coffee tables completely made out of glass, and even little mirrored cubes that you can connect together to form any rectangular shape. But out of all of those various takes on mirrored furniture only one really takes the cake: mirrored ribbon furniture.

Most mirrored furniture relies on large single panels of mirrors to get the reflecting quality but the ribbon style uses numerous thinly sliced strips of mirror all along the surface of the piece to create an interesting mosaic effect. Mirror ribbons are often found on large chests, armoires, and other similar pieces that have large cabinet doors.

The ribbon technique makes it so that whatever image is reflected on the mirror, be it yourself or the room around you, is distorted and multiplied. It really makes for an interesting look. There is only one real problem with furniture that employs the ribbon technique and it is that the piece loses a little bit of that room expanding quality. You see, most regular mirrored furniture pieces have the ability to make a room look more spacious because the large mirror panels reflect the room’s surroundings and seemingly dissolve the wall (and the furniture piece) behind them. When you ribbon the mirror it distorts this and lessens the effect.

Brown Leather Sofa – The Uses and Styles

There is something that is just so stately about a brown leather sofa. One reason could be because they are almost always featured in movies as part of a big library or as a formal living room due to their sophistication and class.

They have never gone out of style and seem to fit in nicely with most home décor. There durability is also a big selling point.

Where to Put a Brown Leather Sofa

There are so many different types of uses for this particular sofa that far outnumber other sofas made from different material. Leather offers a degree of permanence that other furniture simply does not offer. These types of sofas are perfect for families with children or pets or both. They can be cleaned and may actually hold up quite well to rough housing by pets and children.

The placement of a sofa is not limited to just the living room or family room or den anymore. Of course, it is still widely favored to place your sofa in traditional rooms of the house.

A brown leather sofa is perfectly placed in front of a fireplace. It is also perfect in a formal living room or a den.

Styles

There are many styles to choose from. One such style are the tufted models, which are quite formal looking. Another is overstuffed models that are very comfortable. There is a style for every decor and every taste.

A few of the models that are tufted are “easy on the eyes” and well-designed – these will do best in a masculine room. The overstuffed models are great for a den or family room due to their size and comfortability.

A brown leather sofa can come in many different shades of brown, you are not limited to one specific type of brown. You can easily match your sofa to existing furniture or make your sofa the focal point of the room and work to match other furnishings to it. A great way to add a little splash to a brown leather sofa is to use throw pillows that are in accent colors, or even an afghan thrown casually across the back of the sofa can also add a little color and tie the rest of your furnishings in nicely.

Purchasing

You can purchase this type of sofa from a wide variety of furniture dealers. The prices will vary and will depend largely on the style of the sofa, the manufacturer of the sofa and the grade of the leather of the sofa. You can expect to spend anywhere from five hundred dollars to ten thousand dollars.

Modern Corner Sofas For Your Office

Selecting the correct décor for an office should be fun and does not have  to dull and boring.  A great option for decorating an office, lobby or waiting area is to use modern corner sofas.  They are usually sleek and simple and add a nice look to an area that can sometimes be less than appealing.  Coordinating all the elements such as walls, flooring, and accessory items can really make the room look professionally done.

After the sofa is added it is a good idea to add a low table for magazines since people are often waiting and can grow impatient.  Having a nice arrangement of reading is a nice touch to any office.  Leather is often used in modern sofas and also is very durable.  Since office and lobby areas often have a lot of activity it is good to consider durability when making decorating decision.  Sectional upholstery groups that wrap a corner give a lot of seating and look marvelous in leather.  The concept of leather sectionals is especially popular in lodges and is warm and inviting.  Corner arrangements also look especially good facing a focal point in a room such as a window view or fireplace.

A corner sofa group can be very appealing in fabric or leather.  Selecting cushions that can be removed for cleaning is a good idea as well.  Fabric can often be washed and is easy to care for.  There are even leather and fabric combination corner sofa groupings on the market.  This is an interesting way to add the durability of leather and the softness of fabric.  Accent pillows can also add a spark of color and be changed out more frequently than the complete seating area.  Corner groups maximize the amount of seating that can be obtained in a small space so they are very appealing if space is limited.  They also look very sleek and add visual appeal to a room.
